Front Door Agency’s High 5 Give 5 Campaign: A Small Gift Can Make a Big Difference

To celebrate the Front Door Agency’s 25th Annual Penny Picker drive and to help us bring stability to more families at risk of homelessness, we’ve set an ambitious goal to raise at least $5 each from 4,000 households. We’re calling it the High 5 Give 5 campaign and we’ve added a crowdfunding page at www.YouCaring.com/frontdoor. A generous supporter has even pledged to match the first $5,000 raised!

Check out the house billboard at our Norwell Home at 12 Concord Street and you’ll see yellow hands or “high fives” being added as the campaign gains momentum.

The Front Door Agency has been serving people at risk of homelessness in Greater Nashua since 1987 through its four core programs, including Transitional Housing for single mothers and their children. Each fall our Agency runs a successful grassroots Penny Picker drive, sending teams of student volunteers, church groups and others into the community to collect spare change to support our mission.

What is the Impact in our Community?

With strong community support, we helped more than 2,500 people in our community last year – but it’s not really about the numbers, it’s about individual lives being changed dramatically.

For example, Joshua was 9 years old when he and his Mom Emily came to live in our Transitional Housing Program. Up until then, Josh had seen his Dad physically abuse his Mom his entire life; He never knew things could be different.

When his mother decided to leave his father, she and Josh faced new challenges: they spent months “couch surfing,” moving from one friend’s place to another and because Emily didn’t own a car, Josh often couldn’t get to school. His life was filled with chaos, uncertainty and fear.

Today, Josh’s life is far different. He’s enrolled in third grade at a school so close that he can walk there. His Mom is receiving counseling and going to school to learn a skill so she can support them. Josh is finally receiving the care he needs for his ADHD and he’s so excited to be playing soccer this fall!
